Atlohsa Family Healing Services is seeking a motivated and dynamic individual to fill the role of a Cultural Justice Worker. The Cultural Justice Worker will provide culture-based justice support services to Indigenous individuals and families in the London area to help strengthen and heal their relationships. The Cultural Justice Worker facilitates and coordinates wraparound justice system support for families, criminal court, and landlord and tenant boards, as well as culture-based family healing circles with local Elders to strengthen relationships and arrive at out-of-court agreements to divert cases from mainstream justice systems. Role and ResponsibilityUsing a wholistic Indigenous-led approach the successful applicant will offer compassionate and assertive care and support to community members who are transitioning from custody and may be experiencing homelessness, social stigma, mental health imbalance, and substance use. The Cultural Justice Worker works to improve services to Indigenous people using culturally respectful, appropriate, and accessible means. This person will be responsible to coordinate law services for First Nations with other legal aid services, the broader justice sector, and social service agencies. The Cultural Justice Worker provides appropriate intervention, assistance, and support to participants along the justice continuum. The Cultural Justice Worker will assist in supporting participants to find and secure stable housing, basic needs, and community connections for individuals and families.
University degree in Social Work or Criminology or related field.Experience working with people in the Criminal Justice System.Experience working with legal aid services and other social service agencies.Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the languages, traditional ways, history and cultures of the Indigenous population in the Southwestern Ontario region.Current knowledge of Indigenous community services and resources.Demonstrated ability to perform risk and needs assessments.Demonstrated ability to receive training support, supervision, and direction.Demonstrated strengths in interpersonal relations, problem-solving, crisis intervention, group dynamics, community development and other innovative approaches.Ability to contribute to a culturally safe space with an awareness of its impact on practice.Excellent organizational and coordination skills and the ability to prioritize multiple competing workloads demands in a fast-paced environment.Effective communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with others in a respectful manner as defined in the Atlohsa Code of Conduct.Valid Ontario Driver’s License, First Aid/CPR, and Current Vulnerable Sector Check.
