Job Description

Job Title: Environmental Policy Intern

Overview:

We are seeking a motivated individual to join our team as an Environmental Policy Intern. In this role, you will be supporting the Consultation and Monitoring Coordinator in developing environmental restoration and protection plans for the Chippewas of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation (CKSPFN). This will include working with Three Fires Group staff, meeting with industry partners and facilitating engagement with CKSPFN community members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Policy Updates and Policy Development: Review existing planning and environmental policy to determine gaps and opportunities.
  • Co-management of Restoration Programming: support consultation staff in the implementation of the Hydro One Community-led Initiative focused on restoration planning and invasive species management.
  • Support Baseline Assessment Project: support the Baseline Assessment Project through research on various topics, planning community engagement events, meeting with CKSPFN departmental staff and reviewing project-related material.
  • Community Engagement: Plan and execute community engagement for the environmental restoration and baseline assessment projects.
  • Project/Research Advisement: Collaborate with the consultation and monitoring coordinator to support project and research workplans related to environmental restoration, planning and development in the territory, monitoring, data collection, community priorities (e.g., cumulative effects, species at risk, fish and fish habitat) and traditional use of land.
  • Relationship Building: Develop and maintain a collaborative relationship with project partners to ensure timely flow of relevant information from both ends.
  • Facilitate Information and Knowledge Sharing: follow-op with project partners in support of information requests received from community leadership and members.
  • Meetings and Site visits: organize and participate in meetings with community representatives, attend field or worksite visits as agreed upon,
    Other engagement related activities: organize and facilitate other engagement activities as required throughout the process.

Compensation:
• 16-week Internship, $32/hour. Hybrid work environment. Potential to extend.

Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications:
• Undergraduate degree or diploma in environmental-related discipline or enrolled in an environmental-related post-secondary program.
• Understanding of environmental management, environmental land classification, Traditional Ecological Knowledge, and policy development.
• Experience conducting research and developing key recommendations.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and draw meaningful conclusions.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively convey technical information to diverse audiences.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
• Experience with GIS software and other relevant technology tools or a willingness to complete training.
• Experience developing workplans, research plans, budgets and schedules.
• Experience in community engagement and facilitation.
