PREVENTION-FOCUSED SOCIAL WORKER – FT

PROGRAM AREA: CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES
POSITION TITLE: INDIGENOUS PREVENTION-FOCUSED SOCIAL WORKER
REPORTING PROTOCOL: REPORTS TO THE CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES MANAGER

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Indigenous Prevention-Focused Social Worker at Kettle and Stony Point First Nation plays a critical role in providing culturally relevant prevention and intervention services to Indigenous students and their families. This position focuses on creating culturally safe spaces in education, addressing barriers to success, and fostering positive outcomes through community partnerships, advocacy, and holistic supports. The Social Worker will assist students in navigating systemic challenges while honoring their unique cultural identities and providing equitable access to resources and supports.

Experience and Qualifications

EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
▪ Degree or Diploma in Social Work, Child and Youth worker diploma or equivalent from an accredited educational faculty.
▪ The combination of education and experience may be taken into consideration.
▪ Minimum of 1 year working with Indigenous children, youth, and families, with a focus on prevention and education.
▪ Knowledge and experience with culturally relevant practices, including traditional teachings and land-based interventions.

SKILLS REQUIRED:
▪ Strong understanding of systemic barriers faced by Indigenous students and the impacts of colonialism, and intergenerational trauma.
▪ Commitment to anti-oppressive and equity-based practices.
▪ Ability to engage effectively with Indigenous communities and cultural knowledge holders.
▪ Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
▪ Strong crisis intervention and problem-solving abilities.
▪ Capacity to travel within the district to provide direct services.
