Junior Buyer – Temporary

The Greater Essex County District School Board invites applications from qualified applicants for the, unionized (CUPE 1348), position of temporary , Junior Buyer.

Job Summary:

LOCATION: Administration Building
POSITION: Junior Buyer – Temporary
HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week
START DATE: March 5 ,2025
END DATE : Unknown
RATE OF PAY: $35.37 – $37.06

Nature & Scope of Position:

Reporting to the Supervisor of Purchasing and Supply this position will:

  • Provide a high level of customer service in the procurement of assigned goods and services for all schools and departments in accordance with the Board’s objectives, policies, regulations, administrative procedures and changing relevant legislation.
  • Oversee the Request for Quote (RFQ) process for non-complex procurements, including the preparation, solicitation, evaluation, negotiation, decision making on awards and post-awardvendor management.
  • Will be involved in the RFQ process, coordination and administration of furniture and equipment purchases for new schools, additions, renovations and special projects.
  • May assist with some complex procurements, including Request for Proposals and Tenders, under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Purchasing and Supply.
  • Liaise with internal customers, external suppliers and other boards / organizations.
  • May assist in the development and implementation of process improvements.
  • Will ensure compliance with all necessary Board requirements when processing purchase requisitions into purchase orders.
  • Other duties as requested by the Supervisor of Purchasing and Supply.

Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • University degree in Business Administration or a related degree.
  • Successful Completion of at least one course or module from Supply Chain Canada or one course from the Certificate in Supply Chain Management for Public Procurement from the University of Guelph/Ontario
  • Association of School Business Officials or GECDSB approved equivalent purchasing education.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a computerized Purchasing Department of a large organization, preferably in the public sector.
  • A general knowledge of purchasing principles, practices and techniques and knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and acts and competitive bidding processes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and excellent math skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize a large workload in an environment subject to changing deadlines, stress and interruptions.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and ERP systems.
