Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Secondary School Indigenous Lead is a leadership role focused on supporting secondary students in all Lambton-Kent secondary schools, as well as St. Patrick’s Secondary School with the St. Clair Catholic District School Board. Primary duties are related to ensuring equitable academic and cultural support for Kettle and Stony Point students in these secondary schools. These duties include ensuring that KSP secondary school students are prepared for a successful transition to college, university or the workplace. In addition, the Secondary School Indigenous Lead will aspire to maintain a collaborative and cohesive relationship with the Lambton-Kent DSB and St. Clair Catholic District School Board Indigenous Education staff. Further, the Secondary School Indigenous Lead will provide reports to the Director of Education regarding additional needs that may require changes in funding, policies and staffing.

EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Education degree approved by the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Principals’ Courses Part 1 and 2, completed or in progress
  • Master’s Degree in Education preferred
  • Valid Ontario College of Teachers certification
  • Classroom teaching experience, preferably in both elementary and secondary settings
  • Teaching experience in Indigenous schools preferred
  • Principal or vice-principal experience, preferably in Indigenous settings
  • Excellent verbal, written and communication skills
  • Must be proficient with the use of computers including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Internet usage, as well as any relevant educational software
  • Must pass a criminal record background check (CPIC), vulnerable sector screening and provide proof of vaccination.
