Secondary School Lead

The Chippewas of the Thames First Nation Board of Education is currently accepting applications for 1 Secondary School Lead.

Reports to: Director of Lifelong Learning (DDL)

Position Summary:

The Chippewas of the Thames First Nation Board of Education is seeking a dedicated and student-focused Secondary School Lead to join our education Team. Under the direct supervision of the Director of Lifelong Learning (DLL), the successful candidate will oversee the Secondary School Program and provide academic, social, and emotional support to secondary school students. This role is vital in supporting student success, graduation, and overall well-being, while promoting strong partnerships with schools and families.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Administration

  • Manage daily operations of the Secondary Support Program.
  • Develop and maintain up-to-date student and financial tracking databases.
  • Submit monthly reports to the Board and attend meetings as needed.
  • Support student transportation planning and make recommendations for special transportation needs.
  • Collaborate with DLL and other committees on policy development and review.
  • Attend secondary schools where students are enrolled to provide ongoing support.
  • Maintain COTTFN Education webpages as assigned.

Student Support and Counselling

  • Support students in achieving their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
  • Encourage student engagement through goal settings, counselling, and program incentives.
  • Provide transition support from elementary to secondary, and from secondary to post-secondary or employment.
  • Build relationships with students, families, and school staff.
  • Maintain confidential student records and adhere to privacy protocols.

Finance

  • Manage the secondary school budget as outlined by the DLL
  • Provide updates and recommendations to the DLL on budget status, upcoming financial needs, and spending trends.

Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • College and/or university degree in education, social work, youth work, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years’ counselling or youth advocacy experience is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of First Nation, Federal, and Provincial education systems.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and willingness to travel.
  • Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
