Job Description

Position Title: Security Guards (Emergency Winter Shelter)

Location: Sarnia, ON

Duration: Contract – 12 weeks (full-time, part-time, call-in, 8:30pm to 8:30am) including weekends and holidays.

Position Summary:

We are looking for competent SECURITY GUARDS to undertake the surveillance of our emergency shelter.  You will be responsible for addressing individuals who are uncooperative with the rules, detecting and responding to suspicious behavior, and responding to emergencies immediately.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide a secure presence to offer support and safe assistance to those in need
  • Establish a strong security presence to deter unlawful activities and protect centre staff and visitors
  • Identify, monitor and approach individuals who may need assistance
  • Document unlawful activity and other security violations
  • Patrol the premises, provide access control and respond to emergency situations in an appropriate and timely manner
  • Perform safety and security checks and duties with the highest standards of professionalism and integrity
  • Complete incident reports and required documentation for all security incidents
  • Identify potential security risks and respond accordingly
  • Provide excellent customer service to our clients and staff
  • Respond to emergencies and escalate to law enforcement or medical agencies as required
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications

Ideal Candidate:

  • A Valid Security License
  • A keen interest in public safety, and community protection
  • Willing to stand/patrol for the duration of the shift
  • Previous security experience in a shelter environment is ideal
  • Experience with or knowledge of symptoms of substance use and mental health conditions is ideal
  • Strong communication skills, both written and spoken
  • Willingness to attend meetings and improve skills
  • Ability to work without close supervision
  • Must be willing and comfortable and intervene for public and personal safety
  • Experience with at-risk groups and challenging environments
  • Use of Force Certification
  • CTRI training available through the Health Centre
