Hours:  35 hours per week. Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Pay Details:  $30.00 per hour

Note: This is a full-time Support position (35 hours per week).

Duties: The Sports Information Officer is responsible for designing, planning, and implementing the Department of Athletics and Recreation sports marketing, promotions, publicity and communications strategies targeting all campuses, varsity alumni and the extended community; provincial and national sports governing bodies, and Ontario College Athletic Association (OCAA) and Canadian College Athletic Association (CCAA) member institutions.

Key responsibilities include the design, oversight and maintenance of the athletics and sport centre operations web sites, recreation and fitness web and social media sites and special web sites for OCAA/CCAA hosting’s. In addition, the incumbent is accountable for sports writing for media releases, sport community and College publications, and the organization and delivery of spectator events. In addition, the incumbent provides guidance to student promotional and special event assistants, graphic designers, social media assistants, photographers, videographers and mascot.

 

The incumbent is responsible for the tracking of varsity statistics and standings for varsity coaches’ game preparation and provides sports information to other colleges, provincial and national sports organizations, the public and the media. When directed, the incumbent will liaise with support staff and faculty on projects focused on enhancing the spectator experience. The incumbent also develops and implements strategies, consistent with college requirements, to ensure positive messaging on social media.

Experience and Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary 2-year diploma in Marketing (with an emphasis on Sports Marketing), or Creative Advertising or equivalent
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience gained in a sports information or communications office environment which could include sport marketing experience utilizing computer and web site design; creative writing and design skills developing promotional materials (posters, pamphlets, etc.)
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Sport videography and photography experience
  • Must be familiar with various forms of sports terminology, have good organizational, event coordination and follow-through skills to complete projects and assignments
  • Effective leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Intercultural competency and experience working within a diverse cultural environment
  • Knowledge and experience in web site design and management is preferred
  • Valid First Aid CPR certification is preferred
  • Satisfactory completion of a Police Records Check
