Summer Agricultural Worker

Location: Oneida Nation of the Thames First Nation

Job Type: Temporary, Full-time, Summer Position

Duration: May 1st to First week of September (17 weeks)

About: Kakhwa’u:kwe is an Indigenous-led agriculture project committed to sustainable agriculture practices rooted in Haudenosaunee traditional practices and utilizing some modern farming techniques. We grow a variety of crops, primarily White Corn, and are dedicated to producing fresh, high-quality produce for local communities. We are looking for hard-working, dependable individuals to join the team this summer and help with day-to-day land operations.

Job Description: As a Summer Agricultural Worker, you will assist with various tasks on the land to support our planting, harvesting, and maintenance operations. This is a physically demanding role requiring a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and an appreciation for working outdoors.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops.
  • Help maintain farm equipment and tools.
  • Perform irrigation tasks and ensure proper watering of plants.
  • Monitor crop health and report any signs of disease or pest issues.
  • Weed, mulch, and maintain the cleanliness of planting areas.
  • Assist with packing and preparing produce for sale at local markets.
  • Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Help with general farm maintenance and other tasks as needed.

Compensation: $18.00/hour

Experience and Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Physical stamina to handle long hours of standing, bending, lifting, and walking.
  • Interest in agriculture and a strong desire to learn about sustainable farming practices.
  • Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
  • Previous farming or gardening experience is a plus but not required.
  • Reliable transportation to and from the farm.
