Job Description

The Communities are accepting resumes until Friday, August 9, 2024 at 4:30 p.m. for the First Nation Trustee to the Thames Valley District School Board effective September 1, 2024 to November 30, 2026.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The First Nation Trustee will be expected to carry out the duties and responsibilities as a Thames Valley District School Board Trustee; keeping in mind that First Nations student needs are the foremost in any decisions made by:

  • Actively participating in all discussions and to represent Communities interests at the Thames Valley District School Board meetings;
  • Ensuring information regarding new initiatives from the Thames Valley District School Board is brought to the Çommunities;
  • Presenting monthly reports to the Education/Life Long Learning authorities and/or any other reports for meetings as requested by the Community;
  • Follow the directions and the policies of the Thames Valley District School Board;
  • Have regular and on-going communications with the Liaison person/designate;
  • Be knowledgeable in all tuition agreements, education policies of the Communities and the Education Act;
  • Be knowledgeable and act as a resource in order to fully participate and provide input to the Communities and the Thames Valley District School Board;
  • Carry out all directives from the Education/Life Long Learning authorities as requested.

 

ATTENDANCE

Attendance is mandatory at:

  • all day and evening meetings with the Thames Valley District School Board and sub Committee meetings that affects Chippewa, Munsee and Oneida students;
  • Community meetings as directed;
  • Community Education/Life Long Learning authority meetings to report monthly on the activities of the Thames Valley District School Board;
  • education conferences/workshops available by the First Nations/TVDSB, pending funding approval;
  • meetings at schools our students attend as requested;
  • the request of each Education/Life Long Learning Authority, to attend and participate in special events and activities as requested e.g. awards night.

PAYMENT OF SERVICES

The First Nation Trustee shall be entitled to receive the same honorarium, benefits and privileges in accordance to all the elected Trustees of the Thames Valley District School Board. Additional honoraria may be available at the discretion of each First Nation.

Experience and Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older;
  • Must be a member of the one of the First Nations listed above;
  • Must have a minimum of Grade 12 or equivalent;
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation;
  • Must not be an elected member of Council;
  • Must provide a VS Police Record Check dated within the previous year;
  • Must demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills;
  • Must demonstrate a genuine concern and background knowledge in the area of community based First Nations Education.

 

The Thames Valley District School Board First Nation Trustee will represent the interests and advocate for the educational needs and aspirations of our students and parents and the school communities of the Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, the Oneida of the Thames and Munsee-Delaware Nation
