Job Description

The Youth Wellness Worker plays a crucial role in supporting post-majority care aged youth within the Oneida Nation of the Thames community and surrounding area particularly those transitioning to adulthood and leaving the child welfare system. With a specialty for youth who may be at risk or experiencing challenges related to addictions and mental health or housing and/or homelessness. The Youth Wellness Worker is committed to providing comprehensive services, including advocacy, assessment, counselling, treatment, programming, outreach, and timely, effective referrals.This role contributes to the overall well-being of youth seeking support by developing wellness plans, assessing service needs, and delivering programming that emphasizes life skills, prevention, and harm reduction. Additionally, the Youth Wellness Worker provides one-to-one support and counselling for youth affected by mental health and addiction challenges.This position will provide direct support to youth who are post majority care age to ensure they have access to housing, financial stability, guidance, mentorship and aid in accessing other community programs available through the Oneida Nation of the Thames. The Youth Wellness Worker will also facilitate life skills education programs, group activities, and individual care plans, addressing and promoting the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the youth they serve.

Experience and Qualifications

EDUCATION:

  • A Child & Youth Worker Diploma preferred.
  • Candidates with a Post-Secondary Diploma in Social Services Worker, Mental Health and Addictions or a related diploma or degree will also be considered.
  • Valid Class “G” License and use of company vehicle is required

EXPERIENCE:

  • Two (2) years employment experience with at-risk and/or high-risk youth.
  • Demonstrated experience working with First Nation children, youth and families.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and awareness of Oneida culture and history.Demonstrated understanding of addictions, mental health, child welfare and impacts of trauma.
